Things you probably did not know, or need to know, but now know

Class-related things are smaller, because they are less important, but still included because they are also sadly still a big part of my life.
  • Started at Bellewood this week; significantly better-organized than last year. Children may also be slower. Two of them asked me how to spell "aussi!" It really upset me!!!
  • I'm listening to Christmas music right now.
  • Last midterm is on Tuesday (DIRRRRRRRT). It probably won't go very well. Instead of studying this weekend I went shopping (and eating) in the States, shopping here, and am playing sawkker tonight.
  • Presentation for my Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics project, "Diffusion and Dispersion in Natural Flow Systems," on Wednesday. Jamie, Ian and I fought a lot during this one. We all ganged up on each other.
  • Going to Londontown to see Emily on Friday afternoon!
  • University of Windsor Engineering Design Competition is on Saturday. Should be a blasty-blast.
  • Planning and Construction Management project #2, in which we're supposed to estimate the total cost of the new Engineering building at the U, is due a week before exams start. That is going to end in tears. Not because we have a lot to do or anything, but because we're horrible at projects. We get together to do them at one of our houses, and end up watching four hours of Parking Wars or A Knight's Tale on DIVA or talking about how awkward it is when girls cry in front of boys (I'm planning on doing this to them really soon). It's just bad news.
  • Handed in our Planning and Construction Management project #1 on Monday. Took us like weeks to put it together, I spent eight and a half hours formatting it, it was like, forty pages long... and the old man took less than 24 hours to mark them. We're pretty confident that he didn't even read any of them, he just weighed them.
  • Exam schedule will be up laters! I have one I need to reschedule with the prof because it's on a Sunday.
A demain, cheries!

Pool's Opening, Bitches

Before and After. You cannot deny the glory that is the new pool. The pool repairs are what have kept me happy these past few weeks. Again, it's just amazing that we did this. My team made those repairs happen. Laurier, Waterloo, the Region, would not have a facility RIGHT now if we hadn't acted. It's kind of surreal to think about. We are due to be in tomorrow morning. The health inspection is today at 1:00pm, and if all goes well, 5:30am practice on Thursday, November 5th, 2009. I'm SO EXCITED to be back in our own fucking pool. Looking awesome, oui? Edit: We will be in on Friday. The blocks and bulkhead are not complete. Could be worse, but still depressing.

I don't get it.

Heather I don't understand that video. And that stupid song always plays at work. I hate my work soundtrack. I can't escape it - it's everywhere I go! I have a research methods midterm today. Should be awesome. I had an English midterm on Tuesday night. It was multiple choice. Why did I get a multiple choice midterm for a third year ENGLISH course? It's rhetorical, don't answer that. I hate that I go to class, I get lectured on a bunch of bullshit, and then I don't get tested on it. It was fact based. Here’s an idea: How about I re-start and NOT pay for the course, read the books on my own time, and learn the same amount. Don’t waste my time and my money. And it's not just that course, either. I hate school. Also, has anyone else noticed the exponential increase in stupidity? I can't STAND listening to people talk in class anymore. Don't regurgitate Wikipedia, and don't do it to sound smart. Don't reference things you heard in the hallway, because they are probably wrong. And don't quote comedians because you think you're hilarious. You're not. Shut up. Have you ever done a peer review? Me either. Do you know why? Because all you would do is read the first sentence, laugh, shred the paper and give up on life. Why can’t you use an apostrophe properly? Why do you get confused by ‘your’ and ‘you’re’? Why do you feel the need to use the word ‘like’ every two words? And why do you form all your sentences into questions, insisting on an upward inflection? I don’t get it. Hey, remember that time in grade twelve when I was like, “I don’t want to go to University,” and then I went because someone convinced me it would be a good idea? Remember that manipulation? Remember how I knew I would hate it and burn out, oh, halfway through? It’s happening! Right now! Listen to yourself, folks. If you think you’ll hate something, you’re probably right. Block out everyone and everything else. Know what you want. You know what I want? To not be in school. I’m not being crazy. Don’t ask me, "but Amy, however will you pay for life if you do not have a career that you got by a beneficial and fulfilling university education?" because that’s not the point. I NEVER wanted this. Ever. So why the hell am I wasting my time? Why do I have to plough through for the sake of getting it done? Why do I "NEED" an education, right now? Why do we let people tell us the stages in which things need to be completed? It's not a linear process. I should love this. WE should love this. I should be allowed to take a course here and a course there, without penalty. I should be able to take one, two, three years off whenever it pleases me. I should be able to move on with my life, get married, not get married, have kids, not have kids, and NOT have to worry about anything. Especially school. I can do it anytime. School is something WE CAN DO /ANY/ TIME. So why do we let it happen? Why am I going to look back on all of my schooling and say, "Thank goodness that's over. I hated it." Why is that process emphasized and supported? I don’t get it.

EXAMINATIONSATIONSations...

Our exam period is December 10th-20th. 21st and 22nd are make-up days because our exam schedule is so short. They have five exam times scheduled per day (8,12,330,530,730), as opposed to the normal three (9,2,7). Ridiculous! Anyway, that doesn't matter because my exam schedule is ACTUALLY decent for once:
  1. December 10th - PS285 (8.30am)
  2. December 12th - EN298 (12pm)
  3. December 14th - EN344 (First take-home. Due this day.)
  4. December 17th - PS291 (3.30pm)
Anyhoo. I'm hoping to come back on the 21st or 22nd. Tom and I are making our Christmas the 19/20th weekend. He'll be done teaching too, so it'll be really relaxing. As an aside, I have no freakin' clue what to get him. As another aside, are we doing presents/secret santa or do we just want to do some kind of wine and cheese again? Let me know, I'm sure my parents would love to have you over as uuuusual! We're actually half done the semester. Six weeks have come and gone. Does that not blow you away? I don't have a swim meet this weekend, I do have one over Halloween as usual, we have our Alumni meet November 7th, and then Divisionals in Ottawa the following weekend (November 13/14/15). Week off. Meet on Thursday November 26th at UofT, another meet at Brock on Saturday the 28th. One week of school. BAM. Exams. In your face. Done semester one. Can't wait.

Oh.

Oh, and I got a job. I now work walkhome. And my bike tire exploded when I was almost at school. it was balls

Guten Tag! Hola! Bonjour! Hi!

Hey ya'll. I'm alive...still....I know, hard to believe. So I know I haven't been around, and definetly haven't been home in a while, and won't be home for another while longer. I actually haven't told you guys (cept Heaz, and maybe she told you) that this Christmas I is going to le PEI (slash Halifax) pour le Christmas.
Why you ask?
Because I am going to visit Ben.
Who is Ben?
Ben is ma boyfriend. (Mein Freund in Deutsch)
What?
Yeah, we started dating during Thanksgiving, when he flew in to Ottawa, so we could spend it together. We worked together this summer, and I was convinced that it would continue past then. But it did and it does. So there.
*Gasp*
Is true. I have exams the 10, 12, 14, and 18. On the 18 I go to Ottawa, and the 19 I fly to Halifax, Bennamin finishes his exam and the 20 we drive to PEI. Exciting.

This is Ben. And me. But he looks different now, he is skinnier and has a brushcut (because he accidentally put his clippers too short, but I like it) and he has new thick-framed glasses. He almost looks trendy or something. This picture is at his house. :)

Other than that, I don’t know what to talk about. My new housemates are awesome. (They are: Lindsay, Thea, Greer, Aleks and Robin (The only boy)). On the weekend we went as a house to watch Lindsay’s Rugby game, and then we made a house dinner (Butter Chicken from scratch scratch) and then all drank together and went to a party. I was fun times. I like them. I like you guys, I should come home sometime when everyone is there to see you. Or you should come here. Do it. Do it. And I will talk to all you lovelies later. <3

WATER! WATER! WATER!!!!!!!!!!

THERE'S FUCKING WATER IN THE POOL. IT'S OFFICIAL! FUCK! That was my excitement. Now for the more sentimental stuff. I actually started crying this morning when I saw it. It was overwhelming to realize that WE did that. WE fixed it, we got the job done. And because of us, that pool is filling. It's just unbelievable to realize that all the fucking bullshit we went through was worth it. I'll have perma-smile all day!! Pictures to come.

Let the press conference belligerence begin

HEY HOS. UM basically I really love that everyone is updating. Me and Amy were talking today about that video that we made like two summers ago and guess what. THAT WAS THE LAST TIME THAT EVERYONE WAS TOGETHER. AAAAAHHHH TRIIPPPYYY. Like actually, that was about two days after we made this blog. GUYS WE HAVEN'T ALL BEEN TOGETHER SINCE WE MADE THIS BLOG.
I made five-minute chocolate cake. Someone remind me to put the recipe up. It was surprisingly good for only taking five minutes to make.
It rained all week. Gross.
NEW STAEDLERS AHHHHH MY FIRST IN SEVEN YEARS.
I made peanut butter cookies on Friday and for once in my life they didn't taste like cat litter. Or what I assume cat litter must taste like.
HI. BYE.

aww!

image

So I got my hamster! His name is Buttons. He is super cute. He also doesn’t like me, yet. He is fluffy and lazy and I think he is kinda dumb, but he it cute so really it just cancels any negatives out.

ALSO I got my hair cut.
Voila!!  165650

I kinda love it, so basically don’t care if you hate it hehe. I think that is basically it. I havn’t been worrying about school, I have actually kind of been slacking which means this weekend is a catch up weekend for sure but not stressing about school and other things has helped alot, I’ve been alot happier.. though once I realize how much work I still have to do that might change a bit.. Anyways I will add pictures of my adorable Buttons when I am home… ttyl!! <3

Me-Time! And You-Time! Soon!

I'm taking a break from studying to update you guys on my life. There isn't much to say really. I had a swim meet on Saturday and it went REALLY well, not far off from best times! Good way to start the year. I had no expectations from the meet, and for it to go well, well, bonus! This week is going to be really busy. Already is. Here is why I never get to talk to you:
  • MON: Weights/Class 230-530/Coaching 615-730/Swimming 830-10
  • TUES: Swim/Class 230-530/Studying
  • WED: Swim/Work 10-1/Class 230-530[MIDTERM]/Swim 830-10
  • THURS: Work 10-1/Class 230-430/[May be Home!!!]/Swim 830-10
  • FRI: Weights/Appointment 1030-1130/Work 12-6/Swim 7-9/Spend time with Tom for the first time in a million days...maybe
  • SAT: Work 10-7
  • SUN: Coaching 8-9am/Family coming here, taking me for lunch, 8 of us going out for dinner
Needless to say, I'm feeling very lonely. In the mornings my roommates are in class, and I leave before they get back. I have to go to bed as soon as I get home in order to get enough sleep to even try and function the next day. I never talk to anyone anymore. It's really sucking. I hope things calm down soon, I could really use some Me-Time! And You-Time! It just sucks that I can't even come home to see anyone. I can't this weekend because of work, I can't next weekend because of a swim meet, and I can't the following weekend because I have two midterms THAT week, another swim meet, another swim meet, paper due, swim meet, midterm, swim meet...basically I'll be home for Christmas. And even then, I'll be the lucky bitch that has her last exam on the 22nd, therefore coming home the 23rd at night. I'll spend MAYBE 12 days at home, and I'm back to this shit. It's getting really annoying that I can't enjoy anything anymore. But the worst is that I never get to talk to anyone. And when I do, I feel like all I ever do is complain. I guess we bring it on ourselves. Kinda lost.

Octagon, octane, octave, octet, octopus, octuplet, octamerous, OCTOBER!!

So I figured I should probs be like everyone else and write something.. so to go with my theme of uhm eights here are 8 things:
1. My schedule: (minus the lab on wednesdays) F09

2. My job: I work at shoppers, it controls my life, I work in the pharmacy and as a merchandiser, and usually over 20hrs a week.
3. School: I sorta like some of my classes… I’ve missed a bunch of class lately.. in fact i missed my field trip today which isn’t good.. but I tried everything kept going wrong this morning… Also half the time I feel like I should drop out of school… but yeah…
4. Brandon: we fought a bit… we are fine now… and yup.
5. Hair: I think I might get my hair cut shorter.. which makes it seem like im copying steph.. but I kinda want shorter hair.. and also need to get it back to its normal colour.. and not so blonde… though i do like the blonder colour, it just requires to much effort to keep dying.
6. Animals: I really REALLY want to buy a hamster.. if anyone knows where to get a cheapish habitrail cage (the plastic ones not the wire cage ones) please let me know.. I kinda want 2 teddy bear hamsters.. and I sorta want to name them Buttons and Zipper. yeah.. I’m like 5 years old I know.
7.  Thanksgiving: So I’m not coming back to Windsor.. I don’t think I’m spending it with family, I don’t think I’m going to Chatham (aka with Brandon) So I think I’m spending it alone. Oh well.. it will finally be 2 days to myself that I can actually do homework..
8. Halloween: Its october.. therefore halloween is coming up and i need theme ideas for moi and my friends.. we aree thinking of doing a theme again since last years super heros was pretty awesome..

Anyways I didn’t get to go out tonight.. and I’m tired so I’m gunna sleep.. laters guys <3

It's ALIVE!!!......I'm ALIVE!!!

Hello, hello. I am here to report that I am not dead (as much as it may have seemed over the last little while). I have so much to tell and so little attention span. The last month has been a roller coaster to say the least. Finally I am settling down, I have a great house and lovely housemates, and my classes are not too bad either. This year I have: French 219 (Communication and culture 4), German, Basic Human Nutrition, Physical Fitness and Wellness, Intro to stats, and Intro to the physiology of human movement. That makes six. That is what I have this semester. I will have four next semester that I may discuss at a later date. I haven't found a job yet, mostly because of not having time, but I am looking and will hopefully find one. Also on the 3rd and 4th of october I am going to a regatta in Michigan, which means I will be passing through Windsor, which means also that my parents might come and watch. I am excited. Other than that not much is going on. I haven't seen all of you in a very long time ( I think you all know this too), and therefore I am extending an open invitation to you all, that if you are ever around here, or want to be around here, you can always drop by (it would be awesome). Anyway, I hope to hear from you all sometime or other. Until then. <3

Pop, Pop, Popsicle, Ice, Ice, Icicle, Test, Test......1, 2, 3

  1. Is this thing on? Our voices are a little rusty.
  2. Here is my schedule. It's very important, I know. I won't bore you with the swimming schedule, but all you need to know is that at the moment, we are swimming at UW. It sucks. It means getting up mega early to get there for 5;30am. We are done and out by 8:00am, and we generally have dryland in the afternoons / late evenings. We have two new coaches (for those who don't know or don't remember) and they are AWESOME. We are going to have a huge change of attitude this year, and it's really, really exciting! I CAN'T WAIT TO BE BACK IN OUR OWN POOL!!!! I work Sunday 8-9am and Monday 615-730pm on a regular basis for ROW, coaching some youngins. Last year I coached high school students, but this year I have 7-8 year olds. I'm very excited about this job! I am going to continue working at Suzy Shier, as long as she's willing to work with me and my swimming schedule, which is what I like to call "Priority #1." Those shifts will change on a regular basis. This week, it's Thursday! Wooo!
  3. Tom and I celebrated our one-year on September 6th. That's a lie. We celebrated on the 12th. But the actual DAY was the 6th. Anyway, I just had to share this because I was very surprised by this gift. It's beautiful, and it's so me!, if i do say so myself. Trying not to be lame here, but I love this! Ps. It's my birthstone. Awesome!
  4. Fuckin....start school today. I realize I shouldn't complain because ALL of you already started...but I'm scared! I don't want to be back in school!!! :(

Patron, tequila

This is going to be the first of like twenty posts. I've blown off everyone and everything to stay home tonight and get the crap ton of homework I have done, done. But I've worked myself up into a mild rage of sorts and I miss you all (a bit more than normal) so I'm doing this instead.. First order of business; remember that when I asked you all what your top ten favourite songs of all time were (because I needed some new musicks) and Emily, who forgets this blog exists til one of us hits her over the head with it, was the only one who posted hers? Well, here are mine, with like ten songs that everyone obviously already knew (Landslide, The Blower's Daughter, Hallelujah, One, etc) taken out. Go listen to these:
  1. Heartbeats - Jose Gonzalez - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A20rx8VQnTE
  2. Within You - Ray Lamontagne - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtoJkzWXrDA
  3. Biology - Girls Aloud - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waItYCSE91s (don't judge the song for its music video)
  4. Doxology - Marc Byrd - this one's not anywhere on the web. I'm e-mailing the mp3 to you, it's THAT good.
  5. Wait - the Afters - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPBNNwIGLps (worst video quality of life but it's the only version on youtube! :()
  6. Entertaining Angels - Newsboys - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4VFEwYHZiU
  7. River Flows in You - Yiruma - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhN7SG-H-3k(instrumental, not as stupid as it sounds. The first time I ever heard it, Kelvin was playing it on a random piano we found at school)
  8. Deeper - Delirious - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_pt_iwyNbc (this is from like 1999. amazing)
  9. Only Hope - Switchfoot - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXcBTi-dmQ8
  10. Heartbreaker - Will.i.am ft. Cheryl Cole - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kj5rXDN4EJQ (stop looking at me like that)

EDIT: Now with linkies because Heaz is lazy!

Titles are overrated (aka I couldnt think of one to write)

Sooooo, I haven't written in forever, so I'll try not to make this too long. Exams went much better than I anticipated, so I am happy and hopefully will never have to take chemistry ever again in my life. Second, Ottawa is awesome, I found a nice place in Sandy Hill, which is not too far from Parliament, and also not too far from bars and such (except when we are drunk and following people who clearly don't know the best ways to get around and then it takes forever!). Its also a really big room, which is nice, and there is a balcony on the house, where I like to sit and do my homework type reading and studying for my job. Job is going well, still one week of training, but it has been crazy so far. A) learning all the info, B)learning to build a tour with different aspects like themes, and different informations to include and stuff, and C) getting to know everyone and trying to remember the names of more than 40 people including our IOs (interpretation officers = supervisors). But everyone seems really nice, and some people came to my hosue last night to drink and then we went out, which was cool. My housemate that is here right now is incredibly nice and easy going and fun and likes to party and such and is also in army training. Crazy stuff. So everything is going well, hopefully I will get some money sometime, and not be such a poor student. :3 So yeah, thats my life. (I have also now realized that I am addicted to coffee, and have now decided to try to quit, or at least drink much less which is good, but at the same time, the headaches aren't so fun. Oh well. )

we are awsome, this is awsome, ie we should do it.

http://improveverywhere.com/ http://www.flashmobaustin.com/ ok. heres the plan. we all move back into one collective city (im up for anywhere around the world, i looked at places involved with improv everywhere but there arent very many in canada) and start one of these things or join an existing one. basically its hilarious and amazing all at the same time. i highly suggest you watch the videos to fully understand just why i want to do this so badly.

I spent $120 to learn that you can't add apples and oranges

A few absolute gems from my Fluid Mechanics textbook. The dedication, which did NOT enhance my love of learning about Fluid Mechanics OR about life: My personal fave: This is officially now what I aspire to; that one day I, too, will have a nondimensional parameter named after me.
P.S. It's true, I AM visiting Hucal on Tuesday! WHOO!

A HOUSE???

So Tom is buying a house...which he wasn't looking for. He drove by it and thought, 'Hey I should check that out!' Tour Sunday. Second tour Tuesday. Offer Wednesday. Could have it by tonight. He was planning on waiting a couple of years, but this place is in a neighborhood he's always loved, it's the perfect size, and it's basically ready to move into (very minimal, if any, repairs). Basically he needs to paint and that's it. It's priced at 237, he offered 225 Wednesday morning. Wednesday evening they countered with 232, and he again countered with 230. Basically he finds out tonight! Craziness. He also didn't expect them to get back to him until after Saturday because they had an open house scheduled. He's like, "Man I need to not be looking for a house everytime I buy! I'm not stressed at all!" -- Because he wasn't looking or anticipating buying a place, there is absolutely no pressure because it doesn't matter one way or the other. Anyway, I'll let you know! Here's the virtual tour: http://www.virtualproperties.ca/a3303 P.S. No. I'm not moving in with him. :P He says I should probably clarify that with my mother who is probably having panic attacks. I think it keeps her on her toes, so I'll wait awhile.

  • UPDATE: HE GOT IT!!!! It becomes official with the home inspection, which is tomorrow (April 14th). He'll sign on Thursday if all is well! :)

gahhh

So I should be asleep but instead I’ve been studying all fricken day for geo. yay biophysical environment. ugh.. my exams at 11:30 but I’m getting up at 8am to continue studying.. but hey after this one I only have 2 left.. AND I get a whole week off and I will be home tomorrow. yay!  anyways i’m gunna get back to my note writing so that i can eventually go to sleep.. love ya!

My bandwagon jumping skillz. Let me show you them.

EXAMINATION SCHEDULE W09*
  • Wednesday, April 8: Introduction to Environmental Engineering at 3:30 p.m.
  • Monday, April 13: Mechanics of Deformable Bodies II at 8:30 a.m.
  • Thursday, April 16: Earth Systems II: The Earth's Surface at 12:00 p.m.
  • Friday, April 17: Differential Equations at 8:30 a.m.
  • Saturday, April 18: Fluid Mechanics I Final at 12:00 p.m.
Reasons why this year's exam schedule is boss
  1. I don't have 6 exams in seven days! WHAT IS THAT ABOUT?!?
  2. I only have FIVE exams! WHO-O-A!
  3. During my five-day break, EMLEH is coming home and is joining in on our Leddy library study parties that are actually not parties at all because parties are fun and study parties are not.
In other news, I have a meeting with my department head on Monday to go over my summer schedule; I may not be allowed to take two of the three classes I'm currently registered for, even though I have all of the pre-requisites to take them, because taking courses out of sequence whether you are in co-op or not is not allowed. Laaaame. *Would you believe that it took us over a year and a half to figure out what the w09, f08, etc. on our school portals stand for? Would you also believe that they stand for Winter 2009, Fall 2008, etc. ?!?

oh yeah we have a blog.

hokay so my exams are as follows: kin -17th french - 19th french lit & linguistics - 22 myths - 24. and then we move on the 30 and i start my intersession classes on the 5th. so im taking 2 kin quarter credits in intersession and in kin we have to do all these activity classes and stuff. the 2 classes im signed up for are called games of low organization and badminton so i pretty much assume they are activity classes but im pretty sure theyre listed as in a regular classroom. so that should be interesting. on a somewhat side note, my bday is the day inbetween when the first course ends and the second begins (aka no class) so i vote lets visit me and party in londontown. that is all.

Luar

image

Heya! So I haven’t written in ages, so I guess I could tell you all about our formal (luar which apparently means moonlight in Portuguese). So in the above picture is moi, jaci, lauren, emily and alison, and in the front row is mandy and laura.  Such a good night =D We went to formal at 6ish and had dinner, and then danced forever and then it sadly started to empty out fairly early so we only ended up staying until 11 but then me and Alison went downtown so it ended up good. Downtown we went to the palace, basically one of the sketchier places but the palace and trappers are first year places to go and last time we went to the palace it was also awesome... But anyways long story short Saturday night ended up being great… I will update again soon… but right now I sorta have to study for physics that I didn’t study last night because I went to sleep at 10:30pm so I could catch up on sleep for the weekend =D

Ladies! This has certainly died down in the past month eh? Well, I'm going to revive it somehow, probably by making us all do some meme or something on here. Thoughts? So I'm in the Leddy Library on campus right now, on the second floor of Main, trying to type really quietly because I'm in a cubby... I studied for like a good, solid, hour and a half this morning (lol) for calculus and then decided that I deserved a break. I have a quiz and then a midterm tomorrow and then we're going on a field trip to a wastewater treatment plant! Whoo! HOO! I'm actually criminally relaxed about the two tests even though I have yet to start studying for the quiz and only have three out of four sections reasonably down for the test. Lately, as an alternative for studying, I've been e-shopping a lot. I want:
  • a trenchcoat, preferably navy blue and mid-thigh;
  • penny loafers;
  • a big slouchy soft brown leather bag for the summer/work;
Too specific? Whatever, tell me if you see anything.

I am so glad that school is almost done. Un-fricken-believable. Then I guess (ha, I know), I will be going to Ottawa for the summer cause I got the job at the P to the arliament. Lawls. Anyweasle, thats my life. Got it going on. P.S. Hukes, sweet tat. Thats all I gotta say.

AWH YEAH BITCHES

REFERENDUM APPROVED, THANKS TWO THOSE TWO LOVELY PEOPLE PICTURED ABOVE!! They were 68 hours late on posting results. SIXTY-EIGHT. Fuck. We were in Ottawa for OUAs (which went well, not awesome, not terrible) and our emotions were constantly being played with. They kept delaying and delaying and delaying. FINALLY, on our bus ride home, 9:00PM, we got the good news. It's a sigh of relief. It's a wonderful thing. And now I can say I saved a university building in my résumé.

updates on our campaign (it's a long one!!)

  1. ok there were all kinds of articles in the cord today about the pool. first of all, i'll tell you that on monday the city of waterloo agreed to put forward $50,000 per year CONTINGENT ON THE REFERENDUM PASSING. second of all, the cord is the worst paper ever and really needs some new writers and editors.
  2. so. that being said, the cord website sucks a whole lot too, so i can't find links to every article. here is the website: http://www.cordweekly.com/cordweekly/home on the left there is a picture of a paper. click on it, it gives you the PDF version (if you're interested). here are the page numbers of the articles you should check out (again, if you're interested and have a lot of time on your hands):
  • - page 1 there is a little article on the pool which expands on page12. the first page makes it sounds like we're getting the money from the city, no questions asked. they expand on page 12 and explain that it IS contingent, but it's so convoluted you can't even tell what they are saying.
  • - page 13 there is a nice article about whitney (teammate)
  • - page 7 there's some cord crap about referendums they would approve, the pool not being one of them. so the editors voted and agreed which of the questions they personally would vote for, and then wrote about it. they said it was NOT pertinent to all students (i will expand on how hilarious this is in a second)
  • - page 24 talks about aesthetics mattering to students (i will expand on how hilarious this is in a second)
  • - page 26 is an awesome opinion piece written by keith beavers
  1. this ENTIRE edition of the cord is completely contradictory, it's actually kind of funny. the referendums that the cord editors approved of were based on unanimous decisions (apparently). so here is what they said regarding the pool referendum: "per semester charge does not address a priority pertinent to most students." which is all fine and good, but what they fail to mention is that if and when it closes, the pool will be boarded up and left to rot on our campus. the clincher is that ONE OF THE EDITORS, WHO CLEARLY VOTED AGAINST THE POOL REFERENDUM (because it wasn't"pertinent to all students", wrote an article titled: "AESTHETICS MATTER TO STUDENTS."
  2. i love it. we have some really stupid people here. after i insulted them last time about not providing or knowing all the facts, they STILL manage to mess this up. i understand you can have your opinion, obviously that is a given. but that is just absurd. it's closing and will be boarded up and rotting, but its not pertinent to all students, but aesthetics matter. i'm actually laughing.
  3. in other news, the lacrosse team has decided to spread rumours that if the pool stays open, funding will be cut to other teams. we put an end to that fairly quickly. i just said i had been to every board meeting and that had NEVER EVER ONCE been mentioned. i also said if they would like to know for sure, i would meet with peter baxter. which is exactly what i did; signed and sworn statement from our director of athletics that if the pool stays open, this will not divert funds from other teams.
  4. i almost exploded with the cord and the lacrosse team news. i'm just letting off steam while furiously typing this to you guys, and then i can settle in and study.
  5. anyway, all that being said, it still seems to be going well. 90% of people we approach / that approach us seem to be very keen to help out. people are very sympathetic. definite ups and downs, but the ups help remind me that there still are some good people here. the downs are obviously sharper blows, but we're getting there. it's the uncertainty more than anything that is bothering me. i just hope we didn't do all of this for nothing.
  6. THE VOTE IS TOMORROW! FINALLY!!! WE ALSO LEAVE FOR OUAs TOMORROW AT 9:30AM. I WILL BE IN OTTAWA UNTIL SUNDAY!!!!!!!!!!!! BYE!

So Gross.

And so irrelevant. The title actually has nothing to do with what I want to say. So. What is the weirdest thing you have ever had to do for an interview? Oh, lemme get this one! Teach a yoga pose. Thats write. So right now I am teaching myself a bit of yoga so that I can teach it to other people during my group interview at Lululemon on sunday. Don't ask why I applied there, I just did and so now I have an interview, but I think it will be cool.... Uh yeah, thats about it, I'm sick, not too bad, just sound like crap. Alsooooo.....What are you guys doing for reading week? Do we all have to same or are they different? Thats it. I still don't know what I'm gunna do, so we'll see. Have a good one Ladeeees.

Vote Yes!

ok so i can finally tell you what i've been up to! we're running a referendum question asking the students to put a levy on their tuition for the pool. in other words, we pose a question and campaign for it, which will then be voted on on election day (february 5th). this was all confidential until this point. we can now start campaigning. we've ordered tshirts and i'm in the process of designing a bunch of posters. this is going to take up way too much of my time! so yeah, i've been in charge of this, as well as my captain (dave). it's been a bit frustrating that i'm doing it and not the other two captains, but tom said 'i'm sure they have their own selfish reasons for letting you do it.' so fair enough, that's probably true. besides that though, i'm so happy to be doing this. so yeah, the question asks students if they would support at $10 fee per term to help fund critical repairs to the pool. before everyone has a shit fit (because i know as well as you do that tuition is high enough) that will fund half of the repairs; the rest is pledged community support, university running costs, and quite possibly government funding (we find out at the end of the month). anyway, there are so many rules and so many other details that i just won't put in here because you'll lose interest quickly hahaha. but i'm very passionate and excited about this, our tshirts come in on tuesday and i'm hoping to get posters done this weekend! we'll start campaigning, with luck, tuesday or wednesday! so...i pretty much won't talk to you for a good two weeks, and then it's reading week. lol.

Think I'm going to lose it, lose it, lose it

Today while my sister was in the kitchen making some vegetables, I was twirling around in there because a) I was hungry and in an obnoxious mood, b) I was cold and the stovetop seemed like a good place to warm up. So I got out a dinner knife ... for some reason, I forget, and I was waving around trying to warm up, and I got all entranced by the coil-thingy underneath the little pot of vegetables, and it seemed like it would be pretty darn warm indeed. So I was just resting the dinner knife on that red little coil-thingy and then after a few minutes I was like, "Hmm, that should be warm enough" and then stuck it on the back of my hand to check and then started screaming. The upshot is, I'm not very bright, I learned absolutely nothing from my Introduction to Engineering Materials class (or like... grade seven science), and now I've got a red, burning welt on the back of my hand. I know, I know. You don't have to tell me. I'm a real winner.

Quikie

Well seeing as I'm in class, Im not going to write much. Yesterday was such a good day, like you wouldn't even believe it. Not only did I get a call for an interview at a store downtown, I was talking to Katy and she said I would be getting a call somtime saying I had an interview for parliament aka I have to go to Ottawa, but they are paying for me to go! Then in the evening, we went to th ecaf for dinner, per ushe, and this clown walks by (Emily's dream, I know) but we didnt think much of it until we get in the dining hall and it is turned into like a carnival!!! Carney food, aka corndogs, nachos, giant pretzels, cotton candy (!!!!!) a DJ, and free face painting, by a professional. Honestly made my life. Just thought you should know.

No stress, no stress, no stress...

girl you deserve nothing but the best.... hehe

K so for realsies I started my stress management class... which I will be going to for the next few weeks... I am actually so happy I decided to go. Hopefully I will be a little bit happier and be less tense all the time after this class. I also think I may start swimming again because that helped alot with my headaches and tension... Also there are only 4 people in my class. teehee. anyways just thought I would give you that little update!

You guys need to write more often :P  soon it will be only me basically being a total loser keeping a blog to myself heh..

awesome. just awesome.

k just a quick add to yesterdays post... not only did my main light break but later in the evening my lightbulb for my desk lamp blew.. luckily stu had given me random green, purple and pink lightbulbs.. and the pink ones work quite well.... gotta love pink! (not.. seriously pink is gross :P )

things like this would happen to me...

So.. first my door breaks.. october that was i think... then i bend my key.. which is fine because i just bent it back and it was fine.. Now my key is bent again but in a weird way that i cant easily fix... which is fin it just takes a few minutes to get the key in my door, open it and force the key out again. OH but then to make my life easier the chain that pulls my light on and off decided to pull completely out so now I can't turn my light on. I can't even figure out how to fix.. I have a feeling i need actual tools to fix it.. So its another thing to add to my list of shit to do. On top of actually finding a house... and maybe a job...

Anyways enough of my complaining about the stupid annoyances in my life.... On a positive note: Um everyone is either going away or going home so I will have a nice boring weekend to actually get work done! =D somehow I think it will be a good thing. Also Stu is visiting next week. Also a good thing because perhaps meeting him will convince Laura that living with him next year will not be weird... jacks and ginger both know that stu will just be like a big bro to all of us... but oh well...

what else is new in my life... hmm ive finally noted that i really should stop wasting my time on guys.... not that that is ever going to happen.. but hey at least ive noted it. =P I finally met the guy that looks like Edward Cullen... oh that was fun.. why oh why did max have to introduce me as his biggest fan?! (i so am not!!)
so basically that sums up my life for the past almost 2 weeks. Other than the fact that my room looks like my closet exploded and actually it kinda just looks like someone was throwing random shit all over my room.. aka im a slob and i really need to clean it... which is what i was going to do.. and then my light broke.. and well you can see where I ended up.  Later losers <3

The Fog Has Lifted!

my bout into depression has lifted. i was REALLY unhappy last week / the week leading up to it. sorry for being a pile of pessimism. i was not looking forward to school at all. this is not to say i'm looking forward to it now, but things ARE looking up. my parents have agreed that dropping a course will greatly relieve my ever-present and continually impending EXTRA stress. i CAN slow down the pace, which makes me really happy. so ladies, ignore the green (it's the class i dropped)!! this makes me infinitely happier, it has lifted a tremendous amount of weight!

first week back.

1. met a cute cowboy named drew. i think katie and jess want us to get married. 2. might be allergic to a certain type of hair dye, which is currently ruining my life. 3. dyed my hair again with permanent dye, hence how i have discovered #2. schedule is same as last semester minus tuesday night class and plus class from 1130-1230 on tuesdays and 1130-130 on thursdays. not exciting. haven't seen charlie bartlett but i think i remember wanting to. since we all know im not going to do any work ever i will probably watch it like tonight. also went out friday and saturday nights and going out again monday night for someone's birthday. could be a bad idea. oh well.

Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Soooo.........to let you guys know, I signed on a house this morning!!!!!! Its so nice, about an 8 minute walk from campus, has big rooms and most parts of the house have had everything recently redone, or will be done in the summer, and our landlord even took our suggestions for improvements and put them on our agreement. Its sweet, it has free internet, and well, it is awesome and cool and radical, and I would say pretty extreme. I have pictures huuurrr.... http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=538571665#/photo.php?pid=1685542&id=538571665 hopefully it works.

Uh yeah. So no worries there. Other than that there is nothing new or exciting. My schedule isnt worth putting up, it hasnt changed much, but its still pretty rockin'.

Also in Kingston apparently they dont fell the need to clear the sidewalks, so they are all snowy and really suck for running on. And now my muscles hurt cause I actually did exercise outside. (gasp!)

Why so serious?

  1. My schedule, cause you all wanted to know so bad. Better than last semester, isn't it? :)
  2. I finally watched The Dark Knight (I liked it more than I thought I would), Mamma Mia (Pierce Brosnan should be banned from singing, and taking his shirt off, and taking his shirt of whilst singing), and Charlie Bartlett (Emily, this movie was made for us).
  3. Good thing I buckled down and went to every single class this week. Not. (What I mean to say is, being back at school sucks.)
EDIT: IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY POST YOUR SCHEDULES BECAUSE I'M CREEPY AND LIKE KNOWING WHERE YOU ARE ALL THE TIME. (NOT). But really I am.

Wednesday, January 07, 2009

Don't worry, second semester will be better.

As I went through utter hell last semester, I tried to reassure myself that second semester would be better. It won't be. Time to suck it up again, ladies. Well that's what they tell us anyway. I've done a lot of thinking the last few days. Life is a funny thing. I hate the pace of all this. We should be able to slow down.

leave.. or i pull the fire alarm!

funny story. People should really go to their own lecture sections heh. Chemistry (and probably the same as bio) the fire marshal is coming to our classes to make sure there are not too many people in our classes. I felt so bad today, I was gunna save a seat for Laura but when there are so many people there isnt much you can do..
so because people who didn't belong in our class wouldn't leave laura and other people had to. But it took awhile before people were leave. And a threat from the fire marshal that if people didn't leave he would go out side pull the fire alarm and make EVERYONE in the building leave.. good times. thankfully everyone left and we didnt have to pack up out shit and leave. Anyways just thought i would let you guys know how all my classes are (all good minus econ and coop which are going to blow!

laters ladies! <3

Whaddup?

Hey Laydeez. Whats going on? Nothing special here. First day of classes went well, nothing special anyways. Thanks to my epic train ride back here, I think you all know how it broke down 20 minutes after leaving the station, I get a free ticket or something, which is awesome, cause I dont mind going places. Then this morning we had yet another fire alarm , which must make it like 15 or something so far. I of course was in my bathrobe just after a shower, but I took some time to get dressed anyways, cause our fire alarms are so bad. But yeah thats pretty much it I guess....until next time.
