AWH YEAH BITCHES

REFERENDUM APPROVED, THANKS TWO THOSE TWO LOVELY PEOPLE PICTURED ABOVE!! They were 68 hours late on posting results. SIXTY-EIGHT. Fuck. We were in Ottawa for OUAs (which went well, not awesome, not terrible) and our emotions were constantly being played with. They kept delaying and delaying and delaying. FINALLY, on our bus ride home, 9:00PM, we got the good news. It's a sigh of relief. It's a wonderful thing. And now I can say I saved a university building in my résumé.

updates on our campaign (it's a long one!!)

  1. ok there were all kinds of articles in the cord today about the pool. first of all, i'll tell you that on monday the city of waterloo agreed to put forward $50,000 per year CONTINGENT ON THE REFERENDUM PASSING. second of all, the cord is the worst paper ever and really needs some new writers and editors.
  2. so. that being said, the cord website sucks a whole lot too, so i can't find links to every article. here is the website: http://www.cordweekly.com/cordweekly/home on the left there is a picture of a paper. click on it, it gives you the PDF version (if you're interested). here are the page numbers of the articles you should check out (again, if you're interested and have a lot of time on your hands):
  • - page 1 there is a little article on the pool which expands on page12. the first page makes it sounds like we're getting the money from the city, no questions asked. they expand on page 12 and explain that it IS contingent, but it's so convoluted you can't even tell what they are saying.
  • - page 13 there is a nice article about whitney (teammate)
  • - page 7 there's some cord crap about referendums they would approve, the pool not being one of them. so the editors voted and agreed which of the questions they personally would vote for, and then wrote about it. they said it was NOT pertinent to all students (i will expand on how hilarious this is in a second)
  • - page 24 talks about aesthetics mattering to students (i will expand on how hilarious this is in a second)
  • - page 26 is an awesome opinion piece written by keith beavers
  1. this ENTIRE edition of the cord is completely contradictory, it's actually kind of funny. the referendums that the cord editors approved of were based on unanimous decisions (apparently). so here is what they said regarding the pool referendum: "per semester charge does not address a priority pertinent to most students." which is all fine and good, but what they fail to mention is that if and when it closes, the pool will be boarded up and left to rot on our campus. the clincher is that ONE OF THE EDITORS, WHO CLEARLY VOTED AGAINST THE POOL REFERENDUM (because it wasn't"pertinent to all students", wrote an article titled: "AESTHETICS MATTER TO STUDENTS."
  2. i love it. we have some really stupid people here. after i insulted them last time about not providing or knowing all the facts, they STILL manage to mess this up. i understand you can have your opinion, obviously that is a given. but that is just absurd. it's closing and will be boarded up and rotting, but its not pertinent to all students, but aesthetics matter. i'm actually laughing.
  3. in other news, the lacrosse team has decided to spread rumours that if the pool stays open, funding will be cut to other teams. we put an end to that fairly quickly. i just said i had been to every board meeting and that had NEVER EVER ONCE been mentioned. i also said if they would like to know for sure, i would meet with peter baxter. which is exactly what i did; signed and sworn statement from our director of athletics that if the pool stays open, this will not divert funds from other teams.
  4. i almost exploded with the cord and the lacrosse team news. i'm just letting off steam while furiously typing this to you guys, and then i can settle in and study.
  5. anyway, all that being said, it still seems to be going well. 90% of people we approach / that approach us seem to be very keen to help out. people are very sympathetic. definite ups and downs, but the ups help remind me that there still are some good people here. the downs are obviously sharper blows, but we're getting there. it's the uncertainty more than anything that is bothering me. i just hope we didn't do all of this for nothing.
  6. THE VOTE IS TOMORROW! FINALLY!!! WE ALSO LEAVE FOR OUAs TOMORROW AT 9:30AM. I WILL BE IN OTTAWA UNTIL SUNDAY!!!!!!!!!!!! BYE!

So Gross.

And so irrelevant. The title actually has nothing to do with what I want to say. So. What is the weirdest thing you have ever had to do for an interview? Oh, lemme get this one! Teach a yoga pose. Thats write. So right now I am teaching myself a bit of yoga so that I can teach it to other people during my group interview at Lululemon on sunday. Don't ask why I applied there, I just did and so now I have an interview, but I think it will be cool.... Uh yeah, thats about it, I'm sick, not too bad, just sound like crap. Alsooooo.....What are you guys doing for reading week? Do we all have to same or are they different? Thats it. I still don't know what I'm gunna do, so we'll see. Have a good one Ladeeees.

Vote Yes!

ok so i can finally tell you what i've been up to! we're running a referendum question asking the students to put a levy on their tuition for the pool. in other words, we pose a question and campaign for it, which will then be voted on on election day (february 5th). this was all confidential until this point. we can now start campaigning. we've ordered tshirts and i'm in the process of designing a bunch of posters. this is going to take up way too much of my time! so yeah, i've been in charge of this, as well as my captain (dave). it's been a bit frustrating that i'm doing it and not the other two captains, but tom said 'i'm sure they have their own selfish reasons for letting you do it.' so fair enough, that's probably true. besides that though, i'm so happy to be doing this. so yeah, the question asks students if they would support at $10 fee per term to help fund critical repairs to the pool. before everyone has a shit fit (because i know as well as you do that tuition is high enough) that will fund half of the repairs; the rest is pledged community support, university running costs, and quite possibly government funding (we find out at the end of the month). anyway, there are so many rules and so many other details that i just won't put in here because you'll lose interest quickly hahaha. but i'm very passionate and excited about this, our tshirts come in on tuesday and i'm hoping to get posters done this weekend! we'll start campaigning, with luck, tuesday or wednesday! so...i pretty much won't talk to you for a good two weeks, and then it's reading week. lol.

Think I'm going to lose it, lose it, lose it

Today while my sister was in the kitchen making some vegetables, I was twirling around in there because a) I was hungry and in an obnoxious mood, b) I was cold and the stovetop seemed like a good place to warm up. So I got out a dinner knife ... for some reason, I forget, and I was waving around trying to warm up, and I got all entranced by the coil-thingy underneath the little pot of vegetables, and it seemed like it would be pretty darn warm indeed. So I was just resting the dinner knife on that red little coil-thingy and then after a few minutes I was like, "Hmm, that should be warm enough" and then stuck it on the back of my hand to check and then started screaming. The upshot is, I'm not very bright, I learned absolutely nothing from my Introduction to Engineering Materials class (or like... grade seven science), and now I've got a red, burning welt on the back of my hand. I know, I know. You don't have to tell me. I'm a real winner.

Quikie

Well seeing as I'm in class, Im not going to write much. Yesterday was such a good day, like you wouldn't even believe it. Not only did I get a call for an interview at a store downtown, I was talking to Katy and she said I would be getting a call somtime saying I had an interview for parliament aka I have to go to Ottawa, but they are paying for me to go! Then in the evening, we went to th ecaf for dinner, per ushe, and this clown walks by (Emily's dream, I know) but we didnt think much of it until we get in the dining hall and it is turned into like a carnival!!! Carney food, aka corndogs, nachos, giant pretzels, cotton candy (!!!!!) a DJ, and free face painting, by a professional. Honestly made my life. Just thought you should know.
